Summer Fun in Primary English Class

So far this week, we have had a wonderful time exploring Summer.  On Monday we talked all about Summer Activities and words related to summer. Ask your child about what they like about Summer.

Word List: watermelon, swimming, ice cream, popsicle, beach, bathing suit, swimming trucks, cap, airplane, sand castle, camping, picnic, sun, fireworks, holiday, beach ball, crab, frisbee, hot, swimming pool, bucket, shovel, towel, hot dog, sunglasses, umbrella, sunscreen, fish, fishing, boat, surfing, summer

The students participated in a directed drawing of a sun.  They all turned out wonderful and unique. I hung them up outside the classroom for the school to enjoy.

On Tuesday, we talked about Lemonade.  We read a book about a lemonade stand, and then we learned how to make it.  After recess, the students each got to make their own cup of lemonade.  First each student squeezed a lemon and collected the juice in their cup.  Then they added some sugar and stirred.  After, they added water and ice.  Most students enjoyed preparing the lemonade, but many didnt like the taste.

Today, we talked about ice cream.  In Canada, ice cream is a dairy based dessert, with other frozen treats being called popsicles.  The students made their name out of ice cream scoops.  We talked about numbers, shortest, longest, greatest, least, afterwards we discussed ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd...) In the afternoon, we made fluffy slime.  It was a bit messy, but the students enjoyed themselves.  Some groups worked very well, while others didnt turn out quite as well.  Here is the youtube video if you would like to try it at home. https://youtu.be/tWy0cp-f8IE
